Annual Rat-L-Trap Classic at Lake Guntersville set for 11th year

February 8th, 2022-XBS News

APOPKA, Fla- The Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap is one of the strongest staple baits in bass fishing history. In fact, Outdoor Life named the Rat-L-Trap the most influential lure of all time. Before the Rat-L-Trap, sound in lures was not much of a consideration. In recent years, Bill Lewis has teamed with their Pro-Team and expanded their product line well beyond the ‘ol faithful ‘Trap.  Most notably, Major League Fishing Pro, Mark Daniels Jr. has teamed with the Bill Lewis company to custom design his very own MDJ Signature Series of crankbaits.

Each year since 2011, the Bill Lewis company has held their Annual Rat-L-Trap Classic at Lake Guntersville in Alabama. The event attracts anglers from all over the country and many of them support the local tackle shops when they come. For the Bill Lewis company, it’s opportunity to meet their loyal customers face to face and keep them up to speed on the latest product releases. This year’s event will be the 11th Annual derby and is scheduled for Sunday, February 13th. Added to the lineup of eligible baits to be used are the new MR-12, designed by Bill Lewis pro Mark Daniel’s, Jr., as well as the new Duckett Trap designed with Boyd Duckett. Fresh off the first Bass Pro Tour event of the season, Major League Fishing Pros Mark Daniels, Jr. and Boyd Duckett will be on site to emcee the event.

The 2022 event will also be the Inaugural event for the Kayak Division powered by TourneyX. The Kayak division will be a catch, photo, and release event. Anglers in the Kayak division will be held to similar rules and regulations as Classic anglers. Entry fee for the inaugural Kayak event is $50.00 per angler, with a $10.00 side pot for Big Bass. You can visit the TourneyX link for registration.

Pre-registration is available for both divisions, but anglers will have the opportunity to register on site at the Guntersville Middle School Gym between 3:00 and 6:00pm on Saturday, February 12th. A mandatory pre-tournament meeting will take place shortly after the close of registration. Entry into the 11th annual event is $100.00 per team with an optional Big Bass entry of $20.00 per team. The event is a 1-in-5 payout structure and will also payback the Top 3 Big Bass. Rules and registration information can be found here.

The 11th Annual Rat-L-Trap Classic at Lake Guntersville is presented by Bill Lewis Fishing, Duckett Fishing, and Marshall County Tourism and Sports.
