APOPKA, Fla- Jason Caldwell and Tyler DeRuiter (cover photo) kicked off the March events with a bang. 39 boats took to the waters of the St. Johns River on March 5th for the 3rd stop of the Rodman/St. Johns Division. After the scales were closed, Caldwell and DeRuiter found themselves atop the leaderboard with a 30.07 pound, 5 bass limit. Helping to anchor their victory was an 8.92 pound Florida Trophy Catch that took home Big Bass honors as well. Troy Ray and Tim Mann took home a second place finish with a 23.84 pound, 5 bass limit. Ray and Mann anchored their bag with an 8.41 pound Florida Trophy Catch. Tom Brooks and James Brooks secured a third place finish with a 21.85 pound, 5 bass limit. The Brooks duo also anchored their bag with Florida Trophy Catch, weighing an 8.37 pound kicker. Mike Jackson and Matt Kinney finished in fourth place with 19.78 pounds, followed by Wayne Alderman and Travis Sikes in fifth place with 18.75 pounds. The next event for the Rodman/St. Johns division is scheduled for Saturday, April 2nd, at Kenwood Landing on Rodman. Divisional information, schedule, and results can be found here.
Jamie Stephens and Jim Stephens topped the field of 20 boats at the 3rd event for the Lake Istopkoga division on March 6th. The father-son duo weighed a 24.71 pound, 5 bass limit to take their first victory of the season. They anchored their winning bag with a 6.13 pound kicker. Jim Hurlock and John Hendry weighed a 22.03 pound, 5 bass limit to finish the day in second place. Chris Crow and Angel Ojeda took home a third place finish with an 18.30 pond, 5 bass limit. Crow and Ojeda anchored their bag with the event’s Big Bass, a 7.13 pound kicker. The next event for the Istokpoga division is scheduled for Sunday April 3rd at Istokpoga Park. The Johns Lake division had a record number of boats compete on March 6th as 23 teams set out for the third event of the season for the division. Tommy Young and Scott McIver topped the field with a 14.65 pound, 5 bass limit and anchored their bag with the day’s big bass, a 6.55 pound kicker. Mike Sikes and Robert Webb finished the day in second place with 14.33 pounds. Leandro Saratt and Matt Holben inked a third place finish with 13.43 pounds, followed by Dave Cutler and Joey Johnson in fourth place with 13.08 pounds. The next event for the Johns Lake division is scheduled for April 3rd out of the Highway 50 ramp. Divisional information, schedules, and results can be found here.
The Central Florida division held their rescheduled event for the South Winter Haven Chain on March 6th for the second event of the season. Daniel Garcia and Robert Garcia topped a 29 boat field to secure a long overdue win. The duo weighed a 20.24 pound, 5 bass limit to ink the victory. Trever Stephens and Tim Parker finished the day in second place with 16.89 pounds, narrowly edging out the team of Eddie Yearry and Gary Yearry, Sr. in third place with 16.88 pounds. Corey Ash and Billy Bechard locked in a fourth place finish with 16.74 pounds. Big Bass went to the team of Troy Tucker and Terry Tucker who weighed a 7.40 pound kicker to claim the prize. The Xtreme Bass Series is the largest grassroots bass tournament trail across Florida, featuring 12 divisions and 108 events throughout the season. Anglers can compete in close-to-home events on local bodies of water, keeping costs down and affording them the opportunity to compete in the end of season championship. Anglers who compete in 7 of 9 events in one division, or 8 events in a combination of divisions will qualify for a chance to fish for a new Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS package at the championship event. The 2022 Championship will be held November 3-5 at Lake Okeechobee. Teams who compete in 12 or more events during the season will qualify for a chance to win the Michael J. Blocher Memorial Award during the championship event. Membership is $35.00 per angler, $120.00 entry per event.
