While most of the country was enjoying cool, springtime weather during the month of May, Florida was already kicking off summer weather. Summertime in Florida means hot, muggy, wind-less days, better known as ‘the dog days of summer’. But summertime in Florida also means big bass. Large, hungry females begin to move from the shallows to offshore structure; grass lines, hydrilla beds, brush piles, and shell bars. Anglers found those bucket mouth giants in almost every Xtreme Bass Series event over the past month.
Max McClain and Joe McClain bested the field at the Harris Chain divisional event on April 30th. They weighed a 25.69 pound, 5 bass limit to top the 23 boat field. They anchored their winning bag with a 7.75 pound kicker to also earn Big Bass honors for the day. Vernon Kemp and Randy Hamrick finished the day in second place with 20.88 pounds. Tim McClees and Trey Owens in third place with 20.31 pounds, followed by David Banks and Tyler Banks finished in fourth place with 20.19 pounds
Jessie Mizell and Chris Speary inked a victory at the May 5th event on Lake Istokpoga. Mizell and Speary crushed a 28.38 pound, 5 bass limit best the 22 boat field. Jimmy Murphy and Mike Lamere took home a second place finish with 25.81 pounds, anchoring their bag with an 8.39 pound Trophy Catch. David Bolema and Travis Tucker finished in third place with 22.54 pounds. A 9.59 pound lunker anchored their bag and earned the duo the event's Big Bass award. Raymond Durdine and James Creute finished in fourth place with 20.90 pounds.
Adam Eddington and Tristan Kissoon brought a 27.16 pound, 5 bass limit to win the May 5th event at Johns Lake, topping the 18 boat field. An 8.60 pound Trophy Catch anchored their bag and also gave the team Big Bass honors for the event. Brian Nelson and Don Fisher finished in the runner up spot with a 20.96 pound, 5 bass limit. Justin Jones and Robert Glass rounded out the Top 3 with a 20.22 pound bag.
Jon Acree took home the win and Big Bass honors at the May 5th event out of St. John's River. Acree weighed a 17.39 pound, 5 bass limit, anchored by an 8.60 pound Trophy Catch. Austin Black and Wyatt Kinney notched a second place finish with a 17.09 pound limit. Miller Murdaugh & Robert Pager finished in third place with 16.42 pounds, followed by James Romig, Sr. and James Romig in fourth place with 15.94 pounds.
Marlon Crowder and Kolbi Morgan swept the 20 boat field at the Kissimmee divisional event on May 8th. Crowder and Morgan weighed a 26.34 pound, 5 bass limit in their victory. Anchoring their winning bag was a 9.98 pound lunker that claimed Big Bass honors for the day. Clayton Walls and Shane Walls finished in second place with 22.95 pounds, anchoring their bag with an 8.45 pound Trophy Catch. Bradley MacQueen and Drew Wanczak finished in third place with 21.62 pounds, followed by Chris Maxwell and Mike Porter in fourth place with 21.61 pounds.
Orange Lake continued to dish out monster bass at the May 14th divisional event. Scott Bullard and Tracey Hurst weighed a 31.46 pound, 5 bass limit to best the 34 boat field. Bullard and Hurst anchored their winning bag with a 10.77 pound giant to claim Big Bass honors, as well as another 8.93 pound Trophy Catch. Joe Yarborough and Dewayne Moore took home a second place finish with 27.59 pounds, anchoring their bag with an 8.31 pound lunker. Ernie Thompson and Austin Thompson finished in third place with 23.36 pounds. Rounding out the Top 5 were the teams of Tray Bozeman and Woody Bozeman in fourth with 21.81 pounds, followed by Tony Davis and Mike Davis in fifth with 20.85 pounds.
John Armour and Howard Lowery took home the win at the May 14th Garcia divisional. Armour and Lowery weighed 22.08 pounds to top the 12 boat field. The duo also weighed the day's big bass, a 7.53 pound kicker. George Short and Junior Solis finished the day in second place with 19.67 pounds, followed by Scott Carpenter in third place with 16.67 pounds.
Eric Conant and Mike Foster weighed a 22.34 pound, 5 bass limit to win the Central Florida divisional event at the North Winter Haven Chain on May 15th, besting the 25 boat field. Colby Evans and Jesse Smith finished the day in second place with 19.73 pounds. Andrew Hall and Will Brown secured a third place finish with 19.38 pounds, followed by Gary Yearry, Jr. and Aaron Phillips in fourth place with 19.17 pounds. Troy Tucker and Terry Tucker took home Big Bass honors with a 9.29 pound lunker.
Gary Munchler and Rich Anthony caught a 15.39 pound, 5 bass limit to win the Lake Tarpon divisonal on May 15th. Steve Mui and Richard Dunham finished in second place with 15.24 pounds, followed by Rodney Yavorsky and Aaron Yavorsky in third with 11.06 pounds. The father/son team took home the Big Bass prize with a 4.08 pound kicker.
Jeremy Smith and Jim Folks showed what the summertime bite as mentioned earlier is all about at the May 22nd event for the Toho division. Smith and Folks smashed a 38.48 pound, 5 bass limit to top the 22 boat field. Anchoring their giant bag was a 9.40 pound Trophy Catch that secured Big Bass honors. Raymond Trudeau fished solo and finished the day in second place with 27.93 pounds. Third place went to the team of Andrew Hall and Will Brown with 22.94 pounds, followed by Ben Paquin and Kwang Park in fourth place with 22.90 pounds.
Jeff Davis and Jason D. Haynes took home the victory at the May 28th event for the Harris Chain division. Davis and Haynes weighed a 26.50 pound, 5 bass limit in their victory. The duo anchored their bag with an 8.70 pound Trophy Catch. Julian Quintana fished solo and finished the day in second place, weighing a 24.80 pound, 5 bass limit. Quintana anchored his bag with the day's Big Bass, a 9.10 pound lunker. Third place went to the team of Vernon Kemp and Randy Hamrick with 20.70 pounds, followed by Steve Bishop and Jason Haynes in fourth with 17.80 pounds.
The Citrus Division had 23 teams compete at Lake Hernando for their May 29th divisional event. Tom Sarver and John Sarver topped the field with a 22.62 pound, 5 bass limit in their victory. Dave Cutler and Joey Johnson finished in second place with 21.76 pounds, anchored by an 8.45 pound Trophy Catch. Third place went to the team of Eddie Englehart and Greg Hughes with 19.31 pounds. Scott Bullard and Tracey Hurst finished in fourth place with 17.68 pounds. Bullard and Hurst anchored their bag with a 9.68 pound lunker to take home Big Bass honors as well.
Brett Bollinger and Justin Atkinson bested the 25 boat field for the June 4th event out of Rodman. Bollinger and Atkinson weighed a 23.09 pound, 5 bass limit to take home the win. Derek Daniels and Michael Johnson finished in second place with 20.68 pounds. Clayton Woods and Justin Woods finished in third place with 20.16 pounds, anchoring their bag with the day's Big Bass, an 8.71 pound Trophy Catch. Mike Hall and Robby Ratliff finished in fourth place with 18.31 pounds.
Scott Bradley and DJ Green topped the 22 boat field at the Istokpoga divisional on June 5th. Bradley and Green weighed a 24.86 pound, 5 bass limit to claim victory. Tom McGinnis and Dave Maurice weighed a 21.22 pound, 5 bass limit to finish in second place. Kyle Wieczorek and Greg Jones finished in third place with 18.49 pounds, followed by Raymond Durdine and James Creute in fourth place with 17.77 pounds. Alex Usry and John Ochs took home Big Bass honors with a 7.70 pound kicker.
David Simpson and Adam Eddington got the win at the John's Lake divisional event on June 5th. Simpson and Eddington weighed a 21.28 pound, 5 bass limit to top the 19 boat field. Scott McDonald and Willie Searcy finished the day in second place with 16.72 pounds, anchoring their bag with a 6.98 pound kicker to also earn the Big Bass award. Chase Morgan and Ethan Shelton rounded out the Top 3 with 15.39 pounds.
Jeremy Shekell and Austin Shekell earned a victory at the Garcia divisional event on June 12th. The Shekell's topped the 10 boat field with 28.79 pounds. They anchored their bag with a 7.15 pound kicker to claim Big Bass honors as well. Mike Akers and Truman Patterson finished in second place with 23.25 pounds, followed by George Short and Junior Solis in third place with 22.00 pounds.
Garrett Rocamora and Jackson Williams weighed a 28.54 pound, 5 bass limit at the June 12th Kissimmee divisional event, topping the 33 boat field. Rocamora and Williams anchored their bag with an 8.32 pound Trophy Catch. Lamar Farrow and Richie Upchurch finished in second place with 26.16 pounds. Farrow and Upchurch anchored their bag with a 9.12 pound lunker to earn the Big Bass award for the day. Andrew Hall finished in third place with 25.71 pounds, anchoring his bag with an 8.64 pound kicker. Bradley MacQueen and Drew Wanczak finished in fourth place with 24.02 pounds, followed by Marlon Crowder and Kolbi Morgan in fifth place with 23.87 pounds.
Donnie Feagle and Josh Lester topped the Suwannee River division on June 12th with a 13.54 pound, 5 bass limit, besting the 34 boat field. Kevin Roberts and Kyle Roberts finished in second place with 13.45 pounds. Tracy Duckett and Jeff Taylor finished in third place with 13.38 pounds, followed by Richard Chapman and Trevor Chapman with 12.12 pounds. Steve Hacht and Christian Hacht took home Big Bass honors with a 4.74 pound kicker.
Ricky Teschendorf and Blake Mead bested the Lake Tarpon field on June 12th. Teschendorf and Mead weighed a 22.11 pound, 5 bass limit to earn the win. Gary Munchler and Matt Smith finished in second place with 18.71 pounds and also earned Big Bass honors with a 7.89 pound kicker. Steve Mui and Richard Dunham rounded out the Top 3 with 17.52 pounds.

The Xtreme Bass Series is the largest grassroots bass tournament trail across Florida, featuring 12 divisions and 108 events throughout the season. Anglers can compete in close-to-home events on local bodies of water, keeping costs down and affording them the opportunity to compete in the end of season championship. Anglers who compete in 7 of 9 events in one division, or 8 events in a combination of divisions will qualify for a chance to fish for a new Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS package at the championship event. The 2022 Championship will be held November 3-5 at Lake Okeechobee. Teams who compete in 12 or more events during the season will qualify for a chance to win the Michael J. Blocher Memorial Award during the championship event. Membership is $35.00 per angler, $120.00 entry per event.
