Clayburn Reed of Dade City, FL and Christian Reed of Lakeland, FL are $20,000 richer after winning the CopperState Tackle Limited Team Open Championship on Lake Seminole, hosted by Visit Bainbridge. The Reed brothers followed their day one leading weight of 18.62 pounds with a tournament best 21.34 pound five bass limit on day two, topping a stacked 32 team field with a 39.96 pound total and a 4.72 pound margin of victory.
The win didn’t come easy. The Reeds struggled through most of day one before putting the tournament leading bag together in the final hour and a half.
“Yesterday was really tough,” Christian said. “Clay had a really good practice, and we were really confident going into this. I think we had about two pounds with about an hour and a half left.”
That last stretch turned out to be golden.
“We caught all of our fish on a six-inch Sakamata Shad with a 1/8 ounce Horizon Head and a 3/0 hook,” Clayburn said. “All the fish we found during practice moved out, so we had to run new water the whole time.”
The brothers also claimed day one Big Bass honors with a 6.45 pound kicker to earn an additional $500.00.
Bradley Enfinger of Donalsonville, GA finished second with a two-day total of 35.24 pounds, good for a $7,000 check.
“I fished timber, targeting suspended fish with a crankbait both days,” Enfinger said.
Mike Davis of Alachua, FL and Tony Davis of Williston, FL took third place and $4,000 with a 35.22 pound two-day total. The Florida duo committed to a flipping bite all week.
“Everything we caught this week was on a Missile Baits D-Bomb in Hematoma Flash,” Mike said. Hematoma Flash is an exclusive color available only through CopperState Tackle.
Matt Wieteha and Nick Hoinig, both of Port St. Lucie, FL, finished fourth with 35.22 pounds and earned $2,500.
Kane Weekley of Davie, FL rounded out the Top 5 with a 32.44 pound two-day total, earning $1,500.
Josh Hubbard of Citrus Springs, FL and Robby Anderson of Crystal River, FL took day two Big Bass honors and $500 with a 5.72 pound kicker that anchored their bag.
In all, the event paid out $36,000 to the 32 boat field.
