Hot temperatures matched the hot streak that Robert Brown and Troy Olivier have been on this year as they secured the Division Championship with a solid 2nd Place finish this month on Istokpoga. Their bag was anchored by Troy’s 9lb tank. Troy commented during weigh in that he didn’t think it was over 7lbs but the fish was very long. I suspect it would have been over 11 during the spawning months.
Kevin White had a tremendous bag of nearly 22lbs that he caught solo this month to secure the win for August. His bag was anchored an 8.75lb fish which was the 2nd biggest bass of the tournament! This makes Kevin’s second win in a row as he and his partner Derek Savage also won the July tournament. The third place team was Terry Metzger and Ron Roker who snuck into 3rd with 16.69lbs over Brian Reeves who barely missed out on third with 16.31lbs due to a dead fish penalty. We have been averaging around 12 boats per month and that is what we had this month as well. Considering the extreme heat and the fluctuating water it is impressive that we had 3 fish well over 8lbs weighed in. Our beloved Istokpoga is starting to show some signs of life and it will be good to see what kind of numbers it supports when the weather starts to become more bearable for anglers.
Next month is our final Istokpoga Series event. We will return to a 3PM weigh-in for September and we hope to see a good turn-out as we wind the season down.
