APOPKA, Fla- Big bass continued to show themselves in Xtreme Bass divisional events throughout February. Multiple bags over 30 pounds found their way cross the scales. All events were fortunate enough to not be faced with weather adverse enough to warrant postponement. The spawn shown itself to be in full swing throughout February.
The Rodman/St. Johns division set the bar high to kick of the second month of the season. The division launched from Kenwood Landing on Rodman Reservoir on February 5th and featured 31 teams vying for the top spot. The team of Wyatt Kinney and Austin Black (cover photo) ran away with a victory, their first of the season, by dropping a 34.04 pound, 5 bass limit on the scales. They anchored their Megabag with an 8.21 pound TrophyCatch lunker to also earn Big Bass honors for the day. Avery Romero and Dillon Drury followed in a distant second place with a respectable 24.89 pound, 5 bass limit. They anchored their bag with a 7.15 pound kicker. Brandon Williams and Jesse Williams took home a third place finish with a 19.30 pound bag. David Delgado and Philip Delgado secured a fourth place finish with an 18.51 pound bag, followed by Jeremy Lindsey and Jack Tennark in fifth place with a 16.48 pound, 5 bass limit. The next divisional event for the Rodman/St. Johns division is scheduled for Saturday March 5th at Palatka City Docks.
Chris Crow and Justin Ladosa dropped a 30.04 pound, 5 bass limit to win the second event for the Istokpoga Division on February 6th. The duo topped the 27 boat field and anchored their winning bag with a 7.19 pound kicker, but that fish would be edged out for big bass honor for the day. Last season’s divisional points champions D.J. Green and David Bolema dropped a 22.78 pound, 5 bass limit on the scales to take home a second place finish on the day. Tracy Bray and Jason Liggett, who’s primary division is the Kissimmee Division, weighed a 19.64 pound, 5 bass limit to take home a third place finish. Troy Olivier and Scott Paul rounded out the Top 4 with a 19.06 pound, 5 bass limit. Big Bass honors went to the team of Kyle Wieczorek and Greg Jones with a 7.79 pound Istokpoga kicker. The next divisional event for the Istokpoga Division will be held on March 6th out of Istokpoga Park.
15 teams set out for the John’s Lake divisional event on February 6th. Zak Fadden and Garrett Pauquette topped the field with a 23.49 pound, 5 bass limit. The duo anchored their winning bag with an 8.59 pound TrophyCatch lunker to sweep the field. Citrus Divisional directors Dave Cutler and Joey Johnson took home a second place finish with a 15.71 pound, 5 bass limit. Rounding out the top 3 was John’s Lake director Tyler Marring and Uby Rosell with a 15.04 pound, 5 bass limit. The next divisional event for the John’s Lake division is scheduled for March 6th.
Joe Yarborough and Dewayne Moore topped the 33 boat field in the second Lochloosa/Orange divisional event on February 12th. Yarborough and Moore caught a 25.11 pound, 5 bass limit to earn their victory. 2021 Harris Chain divisional points champions Rob Roberson and Pete Roberson threw their hat in the ring for Lochloosa/Orange’s second event of the season and earned a second place finish. Duo Roberson weighed a 19.64 pound, 5 bass limit and anchored their bag with the day’s big bass, a 6.39 pound kicker. Chris Lee and Joey Pate took home a third place finish with a 19.43 pound bag. Rounding out the top 5 were the teams of Whitney Reed and Mac Johnson in fourth place with 19.38 pounds, followed by the team of C.J. King and Scott Sommer in fifth place with 18.64 pounds. The next event for the Lochloosa/Orange division is scheduled for March 19th.
The Kissimmee divisional event on February 13 had 29 teams show up for their second event of the 2022 season. Jessie Mizell and Chris Speary topped the field with a 28.28 pound, 5 bass limit to lock down the top spot. Chris Maxwell and Michael Porter took home a second place finish with a 23.72 pound, 5 bass limit. Erik Tilson and David Harris earned a third place finish with a 23.61 pound bag, anchoring their limit with a giant 10.32 pound TrophyCatch lunker to take home the event’s Big Bass honor. Billy Rutkowski and George Coulson locked down a fourth place finish with a 23.19 pound, 5 bass limit. The next event scheduled for the Kissimmee Division is set for March 13th.
Bryant Allen and Dempsey Allen, took home the top spot in the third divisional event for the Suwannee River on February 13th. The duo caught a 14.07 pound, 5 bass limit to top the 34 boat field, en route to their first victory of the 2022 season. Joey Wood and Bryson O’Steen took home a second place finish with a 12.37 pound bag. They anchored their catch with a 3.82 pound kicker to win the event’s Big Bass honor. Jeremy Dohrn and Jeremiah Garling locked down a third place spot with 12.25 pounds. Rounding out the top 5 were the teams of Joey Pate and Logan Pate in fourth place with 11.82 pounds, followed by Willie Moates and Aaron Summers in fifth place with 11.12 pounds. The next event for the Suwannee River division is scheduled for March 20th.
The second event for the Garcia Division set out on Saturday February 19th with 17 teams battling it out for a victory. 16 teams would fall short of that goal, but the team of George Short and Santos Solis, would not. Short and Solis topped the field with a 19.95 pound, 5 bass limit to claim victory, earning their first win of the season. They anchored their winning bag with a 6.53 pound kicker to that also took Big Bass honors for the day. Justin Neal and Mike Neal finished in second place with a 16.93 pound, 5 bass limit. Jeremy Shekell and Austin Shekell rounded out the top 3 with a 16.42 pound bag. The next event for the Garcia division is scheduled for March 26th.
Lake Parker has been a favorite amongst anglers competing in the Central Florida division over the years, and the event on February 20th showed a very strong reason why. Nine bags over twenty pound mark were brought across the scales. Weights among the top finishers were tight, but Trever Stephens and Tim Parker topped the 26 boat field with a 26.94 pound, 5 bass limit. Josh Dunn and John White followed close behind in second place with a 26.56 pound bag. Third place went to Ron Dowdy and Hunter Dowdy with 26.37 pounds, followed by Chris Jones and Gary Yearry, Jr. in fourth with 25.61 pounds. Big Bass went to the team of Ruben Castillo and Channing Thorpe with a 10.73 pound TrophyCatch Florida lunker! The next event for the Central Florida Division will take place on March 6th on the Winter Haven Chain out of Old Lake Ship Ramp.
The first event for the Toho Division kicked off on February 20th after being postponed due to adverse weather conditions in January. 23 teams took to the waters of the Kissimmee Chain out of Big Toho Marina. Ken Whitlow and Andrew Whitlow topped the field with a 19.72 pound, 5 bass limit to earn their first victory of the season. Chad Schroeder and Anthony Cilladi took home a second place finish with a 17.86 pound, 5 bass bag. Joe Condy and Matt Hinman finished in third place with a 17.73 pound bag, narrowly edging out Austin Schroeder and Eric Andrews who finished in fourth place with a 17.72 pound limit. Big Bass of the event went to Raymond Trudeau and Karen Trudeau with a 6.65 pound kicker. The next event for the Toho division is scheduled for March 27th.
Steve Mui and Dicky Dunham topped the Lake Tarpon field for the second event in a row on February 20th. The duo topped the 11 boat field with a 22.26 pound, 5 bass limit to take home victory. They anchored their bag with an 8.49 pound TrophyCatch lunker to win the event’s Big Bass award. Ricky Teschendorf and Blake Mean finished the event in second place with a 21.24 pound, 5 bass limit. Gary Munchler and Richard Anthony rounded out the Top 3 with 16.36 pounds. The next event for the Lake Tarpon division is scheduled for March 19th.
The Harris division got their season kicked off on February 26th after having to postpone the first event of the season due to inclement weather. 28 teams showed up to kick off the season on the heels of the Bassmaster Elite tour just a week prior. The body of water has been home to numerous tournaments since early January, resulting in heavy fishing pressure. But George Short and Santos Solis didn’t let the pressure get to them. The Garcia divisional directors came up for the event and topped the field with an 18.98 pound, 5 bass limit to earn their second divisional victory in the month of February. Richard Yarborough and Harmon Young took home a second place finish with an 18.94 pound, 5 bass limit. Sean Wooten and Davis Dimauro earned a third place finish with 17.45 pounds, followed by Eric Panzironi and Rick Bak in fourth place with a 16.47 pound bag. The day’s Big Bass award went to the team of Vernon Kemp and Randy Hamrick with a 6.88 pound kicker. The next event scheduled for the Harris division is set for March 26th. The January event that was postponed has been rescheduled for April 23rd.
The Citrus division closed out the month of February for the Xtreme Bass Series with their second divisional event at Lake Rousseau. Hunter McPherson and Thomas Clark topped the 30 boat field with a 24.03 pound, 5 bass limit. The duo anchored their winning bag with the day’s Big Bass, a 6.88 pound kicker. Scott Bullard and Tracy Hurst took home a second place finish with 21.31 pound, 5 bass limit, anchored by a 6.85 pound kicker. Brian Varga and Chris Addair finished in third place for the day with 17.12 pounds, followed by Blake Briscoe and Brad Briscoe in fourth place with 16.50 pounds. The next event for the Citrus division is scheduled for March 27th at Floral City.
The Xtreme Bass Series is the largest grassroots bass tournament trail across Florida, featuring 12 divisions and 108 events throughout the season. Anglers can compete in close-to-home events on local bodies of water, affording them the opportunity to compete in the end of season championship. Anglers who compete in 7 of 9 events in one division, or 8 events in a combination of divisions will qualify for a chance to fish for a new Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS package at the championship event. The 2022 Championship will be held November 3-5 at Lake Okeechobee. Teams who compete in 12 or more events during the season will qualify for a chance to win the Michael J. Blocher Memorial Award during the championship event. Membership is $35.00 per angler, $120.00 entry per event.
