Orange Lake dishes out heavy weights

APOPKA, Fla- Xtreme Bass Series anglers have continued to bring heavy weights across the scales in recent events. Andrew Hall and Casey Hall kept the ball rolling from Jason Caldwell and Tyler DeRuiter’s 30+ pound bag with a 28.05 pound, 5 bass limit during tough, cold front conditions on a busy Lake Kissimmee. The brother duo topped a 26 boat field on March 13th to nab a victory, the second in three events for Andrew. Tracy Bray and Jason Liggett weighed a solid 23.91 pound, five bass limit to finish in second place. George Short and Santos Solis finished in third place with 18.31 pounds, followed by Ramsey Brown and Jesse Drawdy in fourth place with 16.00 pounds. Hall and Hall anchored their winning bag with the event’s Big Bass, an 8.75 pound Florida Trophy Catch. The next event for the Kissimmee Division is scheduled for Sunday April 10th at Camp Mack.

March 19th was a day for the books at the Orange/Lochloosa divisional event. The lake fished so well for the third event in the Orange/Lochloosa division, 3 bags over 30 pounds were caught, with multiple Florida Trophy Catch quality fish brought to the scales. CJ King and Scott Sommer (pictured above) ran away with the win, and in high fashion. The duo weighed a massive 36.02 pound, five bass limit to top the 38 boat field. King and Sommer anchored their giant bag with a 9.00 pound Florida Trophy Catch. Second place went to the team of Deryl Williams and Tyler Griffis set a 33.77 pound, five bass limit on the scales to take home a second place finish on the day. Their 30+ pound bag edged out the team of Tommy Studstill and Bryan Lewis who finished in third place with a 33.02 pound, five bass limit. Studstill and Lewis anchored their bag with a beautiful 10.08 pound Florida Trophy Catch. Rounding out the Top 5 teams were the teams of Tray Bozeman and Woody Bozeman in fourth place with 28.50 pounds, followed by the team of Dale Kendrick and Tom Morgan in fifth place with 28.08 pounds. Big Bass honors went to the team of Deryl Williams and Tyler Griffis with an 11.50 pound giant that currently leads the Big Bass of the Year side pot. The next event for the Orange/Lochloosa division is scheduled for Saturday April 23rd. 

Ricky Teschendorf (L) and Blake Mead (R)

Ricky Teschendorf and Blake Mead topped the field for the Lake Tarpon division on March 19th. The duo weighed a 20.82 pound, five bass limit to take the win. They anchored their winning bag with a 5.37 pound kicker to take the event’s Big Bass award. Richard Denham and Dan Richardson finished the day in second place with 14.56 pounds, followed by the team of John Horsefield and Kyle Turner in third place with 13.94 pounds. The next event for the Tarpon Division is scheduled for Saturday April 16th. 

Bryson O’Steen (L) & Joey Wood (R)

Joey Wood and Bryson O’Steen finally inked a win during the recent Suwannee River divisional event on March 20th. After a pair of second place finishes, the duo was able to top the 34 boat field with a 19.21 pound, five bass limit. The reigning Team of the Year, Joey Pate and Logan Pate, finished in second place with 14.28 pounds. Mike Johnson and Jeff Wethington took home a third place finish with 12.56 pounds. Their 5.53 pound kicker helped to get them a top 3 and secured Big Bass honors for the day. Tracy Duckett and Jeff Taylor finished the day in fourth place with 11.82 pounds, followed by Bryant Allen and Dempsey Allen in fifth place with 10.51 pounds. The next event for the Suwannee River division is scheduled for Sunday April 10th. 

Jesse Smith (L) & Colby Evans (R)

26 boats set out on Lake Reedy for the Central Florida divisional event on March 20th. Colby Evans and Jesse Smith found themselves atop the leaderboard after weighing a 25.17 pound, five bass limit. Steve Coleman and Cody Wilson took home the runner up spot with a 21.31 pound, five bass bag. Chris Jones and Gary Yearry, Jr. locked down a third place finish with 20.39 pounds, anchoring their bag with an 8.35 pound Florida Trophy Catch. Mike Bechard and Curtis Bechard finished the day in fourth place with 20.03 pounds. John White teamed up with David Banks for the day and caught the day’s Big Bass, a 10.40 pound Florida Trophy Catch. The next event for the Central Florida division is scheduled for Sunday April 3rd at Lake Juliana.

The Xtreme Bass Series is the largest grassroots bass tournament trail across Florida, featuring 12 divisions and 108 events throughout the season. Anglers can compete in close-to-home events on local bodies of water, keeping costs down and affording them the opportunity to compete in the end of season championship. Anglers who compete in 7 of 9 events in one division, or 8 events in a combination of divisions will qualify for a chance to fish for a new Blazer 595 Pro Elite powered by a 200 HP Mercury Pro XS package at the championship event. The 2022 Championship will be held November 3-5 at Lake Okeechobee. Teams who compete in 12 or more events during the season will qualify for a chance to win the Michael J. Blocher Memorial Award during the championship event.
