The 2025 Joe Bega Big Bass Classic: A Reel Success in Inverness

The 2025 Joe Bega Big Bass Classic proved once again why it’s a staple of the fishing community in Citrus County and for anglers across the state, delivering thrilling action, solid competition, and great camaraderie. Set against the backdrop of Liberty Park and the serene waters of Lake Henderson in Inverness, Florida, this tournament was a cornerstone of the city’s ever-popular Big Bass, Bluegrass, and BBQ Festival.
The 2025 event held on March 8th featured 121 anglers, all vying for their share of the $9,000.00 tournament purse. Every hour brought its own drama and excitement as participants vied for the top prize in the hourly big bass contest.

Hour by Hour Highlights
The weigh-ins showcased some impressive catches and gave the crowd plenty to cheer about. In Hour 1, Mike Downing set the bar high with a 5.64-pound bass. Hour 2 saw Brady Lunsmann reel in a 4.28-pounder, followed by Sam Ruby’s solid 5.37-pound catch in Hour 3. Hour 4 belonged to Cameron Matthews, who landed a 4.11-pound bass. The showstopper came in Hour 5, when Brady Lunsmann returned to claim the hour with a tournament-best 6.28-pound lunker. Finally, Hour 6 wrapped up with Justin Jones taking the prize for his 3.81-pound bass.

The Big Winners
In addition to his Hour 5 triumph, Brady Lunsmann stood out as the star of the tournament. His collective 5-bass total of 13.74 pounds earned him the coveted Joe Bega’s Big Bag award, and his 6.28-pound bass secured the title of Overall Big Bass Winner. Lunsmann took home a total of $4,000.00 for his two hourly wins, overall big bass, and Joe Bega’s Big Bag. On the ladies’ side, Tracy Hurst turned in an impressive performance, claiming the Lady Angler Big Bag prize for the second year in a row with her 5.52-pound total.
With $9,000 in total payouts on the line, the anglers gave it their all. From the moment the first lure hit the water to the celebratory handshakes at the end, this unique tournament is one to compete in. And at just a $90 entry fee, it’s no wonder anglers return year after year to test their skills on Lake Henderson.

More Than a Fishing Tournament
The Joe Bega Big Bass Classic isn’t just about the bass—it’s about the community. Families and fans gathered to enjoy live bluegrass music, shop the outdoor expo, and indulge in the smoky, savory flavors of the BBQ that filled the air. It’s an event where anglers and spectators alike come together to share their love of the outdoors, creating memories that will last long after the final bass has been weighed.
For those who missed the action this year, be on the lookout for the 2026 event!
